Belle and Sebastian: in studio, on tour in 2010

Belle and Sebastian have a very busy summer in front of them. Not only is the indie pop band currently in the studio working on their next album, but also they have a TON of world wide tour dates scheduled!

Throughout July and August, Belle and Sebastian are playing at a number of festivals overseas, including the Jisan Valley Rock Festival in Seoul on July 30 and the Open Air Festival in Zurich on Aug. 29.

After a month-long break, the band is kicking off their North American tour with a performance at New York’s Williamsburg Waterfront on Sept. 30. The eight remaining N. American concerts will be held in Los Angeles, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Chicago, Toronto, Washington, D.C., Boston and San Francisco.

Belle & Sebastian in Brief

Belle & Sebastion formed as lead vocalist Stuart Murdoch ’s final project while he was attending university.  He recruited by instinct from musicians that played at a nearby late night cafe.  All members agreed to keep the project on a small scale, to work on two albums and then disband.

Little did they know that their self released debut (Europe only) in 1996, “Tigermark,” would create an overwhelmingly positive response.  “The seven piece band has an intimate, majestic sound that is equal parts folk rock & 60’s pop… Murdoch not only has a gift for whimsy & surrealism, but also for odd, unsettling lyrical detail that keeps the songs grounded in a tangible reality.”

Critical acclaim and a loyal cult following led to a second album release in 2006, “If You’re Feeling Sinister.” Three EP’s in 2007 led to the group signing with American label, Matador Records through which they re-released “Tigermark” for the highly anticipated American public.  (Read More…)
